Solid beginning to a likely touching book

The first thing about this book that drew me in was its gorgeous cover art and the lyrical title. When I began to read, the book pulled me in straight away. In the first few pages it already sets up some mystery, and while at first I found the writing style overly pointed and direct I soon warmed up to it as there is some beautifully poetic writing. I also really enjoyed the science and am curious to known if that is an actual experiment!
