If the beautiful writing didn't sway me, or if the representation for a Chinese-American, the plot is wonderfully introduced in this excerpt. (Also I was born in Wuhan, so that was really great to see!) The characters are so rich, so lifelike with all their nuances and little quirks that you almost feel like you know them. It's really remarkable and it's exactly what I like to see in a book!
