This promises to pack a lot into one story, the writing is quite lyrical and there are strong threads of emotion interwoven. I'm not sure how I feel about the flashback toward the end of the excerpt, it was quite lengthy and introspective, and somewhat derailed me from the main story. A lot of the text overall is spent on the main character's thoughts, and I found myself skimming that to get to a place where the story could advance.
