Patron Saints of Nothing is a book that does not let you shy away from the things that are happening in this world.

It is the story of one young man's journey into finding out what happened to his cousin - a cousin he hadn't seen in years - while also educating the reader about what is currently going on in the Philippines.

Another thing that I loved about this book is that the main character, Jay, struggles to find his cultural identity when he goes back to the Philippines after having not been there for years instead of making the transition back into that culture a seamless one. Ribay makes Jay a very believable character as well as one that the reader is rooting for the entire time.

I will say, the only reason it isn't a 5-star read for me is that I was told this book was an LGBTQ+ friendly book, and while there is great representation, it isn't as much as I was led to believe. But, overall, it was still a great read!
