First things first, this cover is attention grabbing. The colors, the boldness of it, the flames around the boy. Brilliant.

This book tells the story of a Filipino American boy. He lives the American life, goes to American schools. His father has family in the Philippines. Their life is different. Jay and his family travel to the Philippines when he is a child, there he meets his extended family and becomes close to a cousin, Jun.

As the years go by, Jun and Jay exchange letters. As Jay is getting ready to graduate high school and enter college life, Jun is killed.

This book is one of those that makes you take a step back and think for a second. At the time, it sucks you in and keeps your absolute attention. It also brings attention that while the character is fictional, the subject matter is true. Something that isn't really mentioned in the States.
