This short novel explores complex themes like grief, immigration, inequality, and the first-gen immigrant experience, through the eyes of a high school senior. It paints a vivid picture of realities that exist outside the American lens and how they might often go ignored or silenced. In the end, it proves how we truly contain multitudes, and people— as good or bad as we think them— are never just one thing. Following Jay on his journey and quest is heartbreaking, eye-opening, fun, crushing, and rewarding. One of the things I enjoyed the most was the incorporation of social media and technology into this story not only as a plot device, but also as tools of social justice. It clearly resonates with our current realities.
