This is a real mammoth of a book. It's an excellent story, and a real page-turner: you are right there next to Jay, the protagonist, as he searches for the truth about what happened to his cousin. It's the epitome of "it's about the journey, not the destination." Watching Jay discover links to his family, his culture, and his past is fascinating. I love a family drama, and this is certainly that.
It's perfect for a teen and an adult reader. I wish I had a book like this when I was a teenager - I can only imagine how powerful it is to read a book like this when you are at an age that shapes your identity so strongly. The story is powerful, moving, and really inspirational. The themes and plot points resolve in a very satisfying way. Some of the events here were truly heart-breaking, but their resolution fit perfectly with the story and the character, and made reading this book a real journey.
