Jay Reguero is your typical teen; he is excited to be graduating high school in a few months and head off to college. Suddenly, his world is shattered when he is told that his cousin in the Philippines, Jun, has died, and no one will tell him how or why. Determined to uncover the truth, Jay goes to the source: the Philippines. While there he receives an education about life that no one will receive in a classroom.

I enjoyed this book tremendously! It is a well-written page-turner full of great characters, but it is also very honest; I would recommend to anyone who is unfamiliar with President Roderigo Duterte and his war on drugs to do some research on the atrocities that are occurring in the Philippines.

I highly recommend Patron Saints of Nothing. The story itself was very enjoyable, even with its sadness and heartache, but I also hope that those who read it will open their eyes to the horrors in the Philippines and in other countries.
