I was really surprised by this book and I am so glad that I read it. It tells of Jay a half American and half Filipino boy and his life the way it is here in the United States.

When he was younger, his family travelled to Philippines, as his father had family there. He meets his cousin Jun. Throughout the years they keep in touch, at first frequently and as they got older less so. Right before Easter the year that Jay is getting ready to graduate high school, he is told that his cousin Jun has died. That was all that he was told and he decides to go to the Philippines to see what happened.

When he gets there, as a young adult, he realizes he did not even know what was truly going on with his cousin and how bad things had gotten in the Philippines. The drug war was eye opening to him, as well as grief love, hope and despair.

I would recommend this book to everyone, as it is quite a story based on true events and the depth of the characters and the situations made this book stand out for me.

I gave this book 5 Stars.
