It was okay for me
Thank you to Bookish First, Harlequin, and Heather Graham for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Out of the Darkness tells the story of a group of friends and a horrific event that changes the course of their lives. It portrays how this event reverberates 10 years later. I found the book easy to read and fast-paced, but way too formulaic as there was never any real twists - could predict what was happening from the start. Also, the characters were underdeveloped in my opinion and I never really became "attached" to the protagonist. Furthermore, I liked that there was a character with Down Syndrome, but I also felt that this character and his strengths and weaknesses were fully developed - just superficial mention of these. In all, I enjoyed reading this book as it was a fast, easy read and kept me entertained but did not love it nor become truly engaged with the story or the characters.
