Chapter One Opener

The part is a little confusing to read, as I wasn't sure what or who was happening. I had to read it several times to realize that Sarah was not the woman butchering the man on the kitchen table. And that it wasn't real at all, but actors. Okay.

Middle of It

Introductions to the six friends and Sarah's aunt (Davey's mother, I'm guessing, although it's not outright with this information) and uncle (Davey's Marine Father).

Seem to be a good group but they all bail on her and Davey when he freaks about a haunted house, claiming that it's real evil not faked. Sarah's the only one that has enough compassion to stay behind. While Davey tries to make her feel bad that she didn't "let" Tyler stay with them, Tyler himself could have put up more of a fight than just going with the others the minute Sarah pushes a little for him to go. Like, "No, really, I'm okay because I want to stay with you and Davey." But no, he just went with the others.

Shared experience brings people closer. Maybe this is when Sarah and Tyler start falling apart relationship-wise. Or otherwise. The real-fake thing is a little cringe worthy, and I really hope that it's not really real (real in the story that is).

End of It

Silly me, I didn't read excerpt file name where it says that it's only the first chapter, nor the page count in my PDF file reader. I am pretty positive I never read the summary/description either. I just jumped right in. That could be why I was a little disoriented at first, but good story telling should be self-explanatory, not need to be defined like a word in a dictionary, you know?

So, I was a little put off by the sneak peak ending after the first chapter. But I suppose that it's for the best if the author doesn't want you to know what happens next, yet.

Take Away

Despite it being a little dodge-y and a bit confusing at first go, I am really wanting to find out if these shenanigans are real or not for this group of teens that seem to be friends. And seem to be smart, too. So I would totally love to read more soon.
