“No. It’s wrong. You can feel it. It isn’t scary—it’s bad. Evil.” (4)

Wow! Could that have been any shorter? I hate cliffhangers and I'm truly suffering after reading that sneak peak!
The author does such an amazing job setting the atmosphere that I was easily immersed in the story within those first few pages and I instantly connected with the characters. When the group approaches the last haunted house of the evening, I could practically feel the tension rise between them as Davey refuses to enter and tells the others that they shouldn't go in either...

“No! No—the things in this house—they were okay. They weren’t real. But that house…that one, there. There are things in it that are real. That are bad. They’re evil!” Davey said. (3)

Believing his refusal is due to the fact that Davey has Down Syndrome and is simply frightened, the group begins to pressure him into going inside...
...But it soon becomes obvious that there is far more to Davey's protests:

     “Oh, you’re being silly,”Hannah said.
     “It’s true,”Davey said.
“How do you know?” Sean asked him.
“My father told me!” Davey said. “He helps me see.” (3)

Add his mysterious response to the fact that his father is deceased and you're left wondering if he's had way too much candy for the night or, if this story is about to take on one Hell of a supernatural twist!

However, just when the rest of the group decides to continue on (leaving both Sarah and Davey behind), and my curiosity is well and truly peaked, the exerpt abruptly ends!!!

His eyes were wide; he was happy to look at the toys. Davey loved the movies and he loved toys—that made movie-inspired props and toys extra special.
“Let’s go see what they have,” she told him. (4-5)

Yep.
That's it.
No more.

And now here I am with about a million questions...
                    ...and NO answers..😣

Like...
How does Davey know that this house is different from the others?
Can Davey see the dead and communicate with them in some way?
What's inside that has Davey so frightened?
What's going to happen to the group?!?!

            Come on! I NEED more!

Overall, I will definitely snag this book once it hits the shelves but I'm a little thrown by the cover. I just don't see the relation to the story nor do I get a 'mystery/thriller' vibe from it. It's just an odd choice...
