Sophia has chosen to work as an intern on a small, barely inhabitable island for the summer after she graduates from high school. She is no longer in foster care and is free to try to find out what happened to her mother. She's been told her mom died in Montana, but Abby, someone unknown to her, shows her a picture of Sophia and her mom on this island a few days before her mom supposedly died.
