Give it a try.
This is definitely a book I’d recommend if you are interested in medical stories.
I did find it dragged in parts where I felt Williams could have streamlined the story a bit better. This book goes back and forth from different parts of Gene’s life so it definitely has a historical component. In its own way, it is a coming of age story of Gene who is a young man deciding to follow his deceased father’s footsteps as a physician. He gets special permission to shadow in the operating room his father worked in and he meets the very folks in the OR that had worked with his father. The reader is introduced to many characters but it is fairly easy to remember them all.
It was a nice, easy to read story that reels you in from the beginning. As a person who works in the medical field, I appreciated the authors attention to detail and tried to be as accurate as possible. The story flows like a memoir rather than a work of fiction. Thank you for the opportunity to read and provide feedback on this book.
