Coming Of Age
This book is a great coming of age story as well as a medical historical set during the early 1970s. Gene Hull is trying to come to terms with following in his father's footsteps of becoming an anesthesiologist. He does get a chance to intern during the summer in the "Heart Room ". This gives him some insight into what his father dealt with on a daily basis in his career. He also has to come to terms with losing the love of his life, his girlfriend Patty, to an older man. Throughout the book he begins to grow as he comes upon obstacles and learns from his many mistakes that we all learn in living our life.
I loved this author's writing style and the characters felt like people that anyone would know in their own lives with flaws and making their own mistakes and some characters wanting to keep these mistakes hidden from those they loved. At the end of the story I wanted to know more about what was in store for these characters futures.
