Historical/medical fiction is never my go-to genre, but this novel has totally changed my view on the genre.
Open hear follows our main character Gene who over the course of the book falls in love for the first time, and his changing relationship with his father, who is a doctor. Gene truly grows so much throughout the story as it takes place over decades.
This novel was beautifully written in a captivating fashion that kept me intrigued and entertained almost the whole way through although at the beginning I found it personally, a little bit difficult to get into. Each character in this book was phenomenally written and I felt as if I knew them personally. I felt an attachment to many of them. I especially, of course, felt a connection to Gene the more and more I read on and learned about him and his development through the years. He is a quite, well-rounded character.
