This story is no where near a standard romance. Right off the bat many questions are raised about the complexities in the life of the narrator. There is a lot of family drama woven in adding mystery. It's unclear from the beginning who are friends and who are foes, but the reader definitely roots for the narrator right from the opening scene in a creepy hotel where something unknown and scary has happened.
