This is the story of ninety eight year old Elsa, as told by her grandson Ralph. Elsa led a very interesting life and Ralph does a good job of conveying her story. This story centers around the pensione (hotel) that Elsa purchases and the people that come and go there during the time of World War II in Italy. Through their guests, they learn of the impacts of the war. Her escape to America is also an intriguing part of this story. Overall I thought this was quite interesting, but there were times when there was a bit too much rambling and I found myself skimming.
