The trials the main character has to endure is immense. She is an immigrant in Italy just prior to WWII during Mussolini's reign. Being female, Jewish and dealing with a world wide failing economy must have been terrifying, yet she comes across as pragmatic and upbeat. She takes on new challenges and I would like to read further, especially how the original scene connects to her.
