From the very first pages, I was hooked by the realistic and gritty portrayal of Los Angeles. One Day You'll Burn is about an unthinkable murder and the history professor-turned-homicide detective who is on the case. With red herrings and a cast of odd and suspicious characters, you will find yourself developing some pretty strange theories about the crime- non of which turned out to be true in my case! It is at parts gory, at parts a little humorous, but I once I hit the second half I couldn't put this one down. I could have used a little more closure about certain aspects at the end, but overall a fantastic debut from Joseph Schneider!

As a native Southern Californian, I found the descriptions of places and people to be very accurate (except when he called THE 5 "I-5".. no one does that), to all of the wacky and wonderful and seedy and shady things that make LA what it is. For fans of Law and Order-type cop shows and suspenseful mysteries.
