I do like a good detective novel and this book certainly was one. It had a very vivid start with the burned body that almost passed for a prop and that got my attention! Detective Tully and Morales are good detectives and fun to read about as they work to find out who dumped the crispy body in front of the Thai pagoda. All the twists and turns kept me interested in the book. I also liked that it was pretty realistic in regards to how long it takes for the evidence to be processed, unlike tv shows when the results are found out the next day and then the killer is caught right after.

It was a bit graphic, no surprise when it starts with a coyote going after the nicely cooked body. I still found it interesting but it may turn others off. Also the part with the dogs. As a dog lover I found that bit not so fun to read.

This was a good start for a debut book and I would not mind reading more from Joseph Schneider and continuing on with the adventures of Detective Tully Jarsdel.
