Modern-day LA Confidential.
The story begins with a mutilated burned corpse found on the grass one morning. It is mistakenly identified, by the witness as a manikin at first until the person realizes it is really a dead body and calls the police. Enter Detective Tully Jersdel; a history buff who utilizes his expert knowledge of history and spiritualism to solve cases. Detective Jersdel is philosophical as he gathers clues from his suspects as well as deal with an unhappy girlfriend. Will he get the culprit on time before he kills again? You will have to read this perfectly fast-paced, intriguing mystery to find out. I loved this book. It has everything the fem fetal, the gun-shoe and hard-boiled detective who is not on the take. It reminded me of all the old film noir I've seen from the 30’s and ’40s. Detective Tully Jersdel Is a complex person, the good guy with a lot of baggage like the rest of us. However, he is still a hero when he needs to be. The mystery was an exciting, intricate, puzzle with so many twists and turns which leads to an unexpected, satisfying end. The characters are interesting and three dimensional. I wanted to know more about hem once they were introduced. This is a stunning first novel by this author and I look forward to reading more by this author in the future. I'd like to thank BOOKISHFIRST.COM for a free ARC copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.
