This is the first book in a series. Tully is a former history professor and now an LAPD detective. He is learning to navigate the day to day tasks of his job and trying to have a personal life, even though he stays away from crowds. He attempts to interact with someone and it becomes disastrous.
I love the words and the picture they give of life in LA and what it's like to be a detective in a city of glitzy and glamour. The author doesn't sugar coat things, but shows what life might be like for an LAPD detective.
I enjoyed looking into Tully's life outside of work and seeing what his childhood was like with two dads.
I like that Tully doesn't have the perfect life and that he has flaws as well as the rest of us.
