I was not sure what to expect when I picked this book up. The synopsis was intriguing and the cover really pushed me to pick this one up. This is my 2nd book I've read by this author. Her first book had a very unique style of writing and that rang true in this one as well. I would say that the writing in this novel was lyrical, engaging, and everything I was hoping for. I really enjoyed the story, the characters, and the mystery plot line. It really kept me guessing right up into the very end. The Victorian time period was very well done and very atmospheric. I loved how the author used the river to tell the story as well as to add to the atmosphere. At times it was almost like the river was a character of its own, sort of like a myth or a spirit. I highly recommend both this story and this author if you are looking for something out of the box but incredibly enjoyable.
