I won an advance copy of this novel from the publisher, Atria Books, through Bookishfirst, and was provided an e-galley through Netgalley.

4.5 stars! This enchanting novel has one of the best beginnings I have read in a long time. I was hooked and eager to keep reading. However, life got in my way. I would not advise trying to read this one when you can not give it the attention it deserves, which is complete immersion. The many characters are charming and original with stories to match. Diane Setterfield weaves this story like the river it is set upon, gracefully and overflowing with mystique. This is my first Setterfield novel, but I look forward to reading more from her, including her well-known novel, The Thirteenth Tale.
