The opening of the book is really interesting with the drowning children being saved from the river but then nothing exciting happens after that it is just a bunch of towns people talking about the children and arguing. I thought the writing and landscape of the novel was intriguing. There were not any characters that i was very invested in it was more of a book for passing the time. The Swan Inn was a cool setting in the story I could feel myself being there in the candlelight drinking a beer with the people. I read the author's research acknowledgements for people who have fallen in a river and mysteriously come back to life, but it was more of the body slowing the heart rate and going into extreme survival mode. I thought that was more interesting than the book.
