I absolutely loved this book! I don't give out a lot of five star ratings, but when I do it is because I loved both the story and the writing so much.
Once Upon a River is about a mystery man and child who stumble into a bar during a storm. Who are they? Where did they come from? There are multiple theories and multiple children missing in the area.
Mrs. Setterfield's writing is beautiful. This book is historical fiction with magical realism and folklore mixed in. It is the way I imagine people to tell stories before electricity and technology.
