This excerpt from Once Upon a River is my first experience reading something from Diane Setterfield. I've heard so many good things about The Thirteenth Tale and this glimpse into her work shows me why. Setterfield has a style of writing that simply captivates an audience. I was intrigued about the town, the characters, and this mysterious girl. The synopsis tells the reader right away that the girl comes back to life and this excerpt ended with the town clearly believing she was dead. I need to know what happens next!

The cover for this book is stunning! From reading the first few pages, it is clear to see why a swan is used, as well as why the neck looks like a river. The design is a great play on the story!

I'm eager to know more about this young girl who comes back to life. I have a hunch that Jonathan will play a large role in the story and he and his family are characters that seem quite interesting. I typically don't read many novels with a folklore aspect to them, but this seems like a book that could surely change things!
