This book is not for me, but I can appreciate the writing style despite disliking it. The sentences are dense, complex, packed with description. The style is older, with "for" being used in place of "because" at times. This is usually where I know to stop reading. Basically, this is a period piece, adding to my disinterest, but anybody who enjoys reading old stories will enjoy this book.

The plot of the First Look is intriguing, I admit. It's the kind of story I picture myself reading next to a cozy fire on a snowy, bleak day. Bar patrons sitting around and telling stories. A mysterious man barrels in, with a baby in his arms. The baby is unmoving, unbreathing, but then comes to life. The townspeople, who all know each other and everyone else, compare notes to determine whose baby it is. It's interesting, albeit not my taste.
