Thank you so much BookishFirst!!
Wow. I absolutely adore this book. I just realized it’s also my first historical-fiction and boy, did Stephanie Graves do it justice.
The writing was incredible. Not only is it atmospheric, allowing me to be fully immersed in this little village, the writing is also highly intelligent. The way Graves writes is engaging, lively and striking. Packed with cool facts and information.
As soon as Aldridge was introduced, I immediately was obsessed with the banter between him and Olive. They were hilarious and heart warming; had me cracking up till the last page. I absolutely adored the different relationships Olive carried, each of them unique and fun to learn more of characters’ histories. Olive and Jonathon’s relationship was particularly heartwarming. I also love the way all the characters were so studiously spoken.
As for the mystery side of the story, I had absolutely no leads to be quite frank. There was so much uncertainty and so many possibilities on who the killer could be that only by the very end did it all make sense. I would have never guessed the suspect was who they ended up being.
