This was a perfectly cozy mystery set against the backdrop of WWII. I enjoyed learning about pigeons and their contributions to the war. I liked all of the descriptions of town life and how lives were changed due to the war. I think this novel was a great combination of historical aspects, facts, and character building. I liked the tension between Olive and Jaime - it was the funniest part of the book for me. The one aspect that was a little lacking to me was the mystery itself. The murder is in the blurb of the book, but doesn’t occur until a third of the way through. This very much feels like a set up for the characters and storyline for the rest of the series. I think this series has a lot of potential, but this initial mystery was a bit of a letdown. I would still recommend this story for anyone looking for a quick, cozy weekend read, but would pitch as a cozy mystery versus a historical fiction.
