Olive Bright, Pigeoneer is a tale of murder in World War Two era England. The story follows Olive Bright, a young woman who attempts to use her pigeons to help the war effort. She soon becomes faced with murder, and must discover the cause of this unfortunate event.
The writing style is reminiscent of authors such as Agatha Christie, with a slightly whimsical tone. Despite the grim murder subplot, the novel manages to keep up the tone without creating too dark of an atmosphere.
Despite this, I did find issues with the protagonist. She wasn’t entirely likable, being very impulsive and unaccountable. I also did not find the mystery aspect too engrossing. The suspense was light and overall not very gripping.
Although, I felt there was a very interesting premise surrounding the story. Pigeon flying is a topic not much looked into, and the novel did a great deal of exploring this. Without a doubt, a learned a lot throughout this novel.
