This historical mystery was just the thing I needed this last week. It's set in a charming English village with lots of nosy neighbors and connections, and it explores an aspect of WWII that I've never read anything about- the use of pigeons for communication. Olive's training and knowledge of the birds brings something unique to the story. There are a lot of side stories in this, and Olive Bright is the kind of plucky, intrepid accidental investigator that is so enjoyable to read about. While the village is not immune to the seriousness and danger of the war, it is set far enough apart from the action and devastation that, while there are changes- rationing, the absence of their young men, etc.- much of life is continuing on, allowing a lot of room for character and story. There is a lot of potential for a series here, and it would definitely be one I'd continue.
