A YA novel with a strong POC woman main character and a POC love interest with a POC grandmother movie star? YES! Bland, not very likable main characters? Oh no. I did not find Evie or Milo to be great characters which makes me so sad because I used my points on this book. I enjoyed the plot and the grandmother, who was so much more down to earth than a famous movie star should be, but I just couldn’t find a reason to be invested in the two cover stars, Evie and Milo. It had one of my favorite tropes, but it didn’t feel believable: enemies to more, and a rich character becoming a better person thanks to a more down to earth person. That whole Cinderella trope. But I just didn’t feel a connection to either character, but that could just be on me. I found the plot fresh and fun, almost like a YA The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, and the writing was really nice. I think y’all should give it a try because it is wonderful and maybe you’ll form the connection to the characters I couldn’t.
