Notorious ended up being a bit of a mixed bag for me. I enjoyed Drusilla as a character, and I thought that some of the complications thrown at the two main protagonists were interesting and added some twists to this marriage of convenience story. However, I took issue with a couple of elements of the story, the lesser being that while this is in theory at least a romance, the ending didn't really properly wrap up with a HEA or HFN, instead introducing the peril awaiting in the next book in the series in a way that felt a little muddy and forced. The male protagonist, Gabriel, is biracial, and grew up in Oran with his father as a sultan with multiple wives or partners, and there was a lot of talk about Gabriel growing up expecting this in his relationships, while I understand this is historical fiction, it just felt to me that it was insensitively handled. My understanding after reading other reviews is that this is a spin off from a series that I am unfamiliar with, and I'm not sure if I'd have a different understanding or perspective if I had read that first.
