Ended up being ok
From reading the first impression of this book, I was really excited to receive the full book and began reading right away. I was initially intrigued by the main character Gabe and Dru and the back and forth sarcastic flirting thing they had going on. However, as the book went on the back and forth between these two characters became stale and at times annoying.
In a story like this I love seeing characters develop, grow and learn from their mistakes in order to become better. Yet I felt these characters did not reach the level of self reflection I was hoping they would. Instead the continued to hurt each other and expected the other to accept it.
I did really like that the ending had some action, I just wish the author had taken more time to build up the action because it felt very rushed. I also really liked Eva as a character and found myself wishing she was in the book more. So if the second book in the series focuses on Eva I will probably be reading it as well.
Overall I did not hate the book but I also did not love it. If you like period romances I would definitely give this one a try.
