My most favorite form of romance novels is the Regency. It may be true that the end of these books is a wedding, but the woman in the stories had more agency than women in other forms of romance novel at the time I started reading them. I especially like the ones where the woman is a bluestocking with powerful opinions of her own. This feels like one of those.
