I was interested in the book because of the beautiful cover. In this rich world, teenage girls inherit magic abilities and can pass it on to others with a kiss. Magic is outlawed in their town but The Great House protect women and girls with magic . The world is full of life and very imaginative.Matilde, Aesa, and Sayer are this year Nightbirds. They spend their nights with clients who spend tons of money for their magic. Once their time is up,they're supposed to marry a Great House lord and become mothers. However, they want more in life and are determined to get a different life.
I enjoyed reading about Matilde, Aesa, and Sayer journey in this book. I would give it a five star rating, but it was a little clunky at times. I did like the romance and political intrugue was very interesting to me. I'm ready for the sequel. This is a great debut novel.
