Rinse and repeat?
The artwork of the map is stunningly detailed to perfection and it really matches the vibes of the story. I love the mysterious, forbidden magic that the girls have. And I also really like the glitzy, glamorous atmosphere that we are brought into in the first chapter. It's giving me 1920's, Prohibition era, Great Gatsby feels. I also liked the different characters we are introduced to, even if it did feel like just an infodump of backstory. I love YA Fantasy but this one kind of seems like a rinse and repeat of every other trope-filled book I've read in the past few years within this genre. I just don't get the impression that there's going to be anything truly captivating about this story. I already see it being somewhat predictable. But it's not bad; I still think there is an audience out there that will love this book. But for me, it just didn't sweep me away and make me want to keep going. I appreciate being able to get this first look at the book, but I think I'm going to have to pass on this one.
