A little verbose

The premise of Nightbirds is promising, but the opening pages felt verbose, landing more on the side of overwrought rather than lyrical. It feels strongly reminiscent of Dhonielle Clayton's The Belles, though the layer of required anonymity in this story is an interested addition. Fans of that duology may find this a good read, and vice versa.
