I love stories where the main characters go from their "ordinary" world to a magical world, and "Never After" is one of those books. (And this book is similar to one of my favorite graphic novels/manga: Once in a Blue Moon, where the main character is sucked into her favorite fantasy book.)

Told through third-person present tense POV, Filomena is a middle-schooler who is on her way from school to buy the final book in her favorite book series, only to find out it doesn't exist. And now she's being stalked?

The writing is cheeky and full of vivid details that suck you write into the story that's perfect for young readers of fantasy and mythology. I love the artwork before each chapter (something that's lacking in Young Adult and Adult books)! The prologue draws you into a fairytale familiar, yet not so familiar at the same time.

The cover is intriguing; it gives you the sense of something lurking within but at the same time there's a search for possible treasure? I think it would've been better to have been a storybook. And the golden lamp in the center? Is this story going to be a retelling of Aladdin and the Magic Lamp? So far, the excerpt does not allude to this, but I do want to read more to find out!
