1. Never after- bookish (oct 26)
An exciting and interesting middle grade novel! Just imagine if you went to the bookstore to buy Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets on the release day and Harry Potter followed you home!! In Never After the young protagonist is Filomena Jefferson-Cho and she is very excited to get the final installment of her favorite book series. An unfortunate discovery is revealed about the author and it is made known that the series is not yet complete. On her walk home Filomena is followed and the perpetrator happens to be a character from the very book series she loves. There is intrigue, magic, fairies, and adventure.
Filomena is just like any other middle school girl who makes mistakes and is maybe shy or insecure. But she does try hard to learn from her mistakes and she grows stronger because of it. She has great character development throughout the book and this is only the first book of the series! I’m excited to see where this goes!
The only part for me that I didn’t care for was how her parents just allow her to go off without much thought. As an adult reading a middle grade book I can make forgivenesses for certain actions because Filomena is a young girl. However, as a parent I can’t believe Filomena’s parent’s actions.
But a great start! I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.
