I've been going through the old first look previews in order to rack up more points. I download them to the computer, then I read them as I get to them on the nook, taking notes to come back to writing this later. The following were my notes as I read the excerpt:
- This book hits the body tropes.
- It is vapid.
- It body shames and uses body shaming to pretend to teach a lesson.
- This is a terrible way to approach this.
- I would not let my kid read this one.
- I would have expected this type of misguided bullcrap in the 90s, but we are long past this now - or so I thought.
- This is so very shallow.
I am sure that the author "meant well" and that they thought they had the best of intentions, but this is really just another slap in the face that tells females that whatever they are doing, they are doing it wrong. And that has to be one of the dumbest things I have ever seen.
