There's only a couple negatives about this book and they are personal preference. I felt I missed some things due to not reading the three books before in this series and I have a hard time reading books that have British slang in them. Other than that I thought this was a good mystery. I liked the main character, Jane, and I really like the settings and the era that the book took place in. The writing was kind of hard to follow for me and I think that was part of the slang used such as "constable" and "bloody" and eating "teacakes" which I am just not familiar with. The storyline and the mystery was well done and I would like to eventually read the first three so I can be caught up if a fifth novel comes out.
