I'm a big fan of police procedurals, Jane Tennison and Lynda La Plante, so I'm thrilled to get a sneak peek at the next one in the series. I've read the first and part of the second - I need to get my skates on to catch up, it seems.
The excerpt I read seems more polished than the first one of the series, and takes off with the crime committed in the first few pages. There's enough detail of the "regulars" to permit a casual reader to pick it up without reading the back catalog, I think.
I lived in England during the Winter of Discontent, and this novel really evokes that miserable time for me. I look forward to seeing how this plays out.
