***Thanks so much to Bookish and Crooked Lane Books for the ARC. The following review is my honest opinion of this selection.***

I have been in this weird reading space lately that has me choosing all different genres of books. Usually, I don't get too into thrillers but I have a small stack of them all of a sudden and this book was the second one I read (the first is actually getting ready to be published so that review will be added here in a week or two). The first thing that caught my attention was the bright red braid on the cover paired with the book title itself. Then I read the blurb on the book jacket (see above) and was hooked. I was not familiar with the author so I wasn't exactly sure what to expect.

I really like books told from varying points of view and that's exactly how this one is. Claire starts the book off by describing her daughter Abby and the family trip they are on. It's a yearly routine that has been happening for just about all of Abby's 11 years of life but she informs her mother that this year's trip is going to be special. Needless to say the trip turns into Claire's worst nightmare and she can't even explain to her daughter just how much danger Abby innocently just put them in. The first 6 pages of this book sucked me right in and held my attention the whole way through. I couldn't put it down! The next chapter is from Abby's point of view a month after "the incident" and this is mostly the format for the rest of the book switching from person to person.

I don't want to give too much of the plot away but I will say that Claire and her husband Michael are not who they seem. Claire was desperate to become a mother again after her first son died from a genetic mutation passed down by her. She learns of a fertility doctor who has developed a very experimental and very illegal procedure that will effectively remove any unwanted genetic markers. Claire decides it's her only chance at a healthy baby and goes for it. The outcome is Abby, the world's first baby born to 3 biological parents. This is the first reason you're gonna watch to read this book.

Reason #2 to add this to your fall reading list ( this is set for publication in September) is the thrill factor. I was pretty surprised by some of the twists and turns in this book. I actually had to go back and read the opening chapters again because about 2/3 of the way through the author just dropped in some casual facts about Abby's Dad and I couldn't believe I had missed so many clues!

Reason#3 is the best reason. This book will make you sit back and shake your head at the science used to make Abby. I was intrigued by the idea and just as equally freaked out by the possibilities.

The tentative release date for this book is September 10. It's a pretty quick read at around 288 pages. If you are interested in learning more about the author and her other books feel free to visit her website ( kirapeikoff.com) or follow her on Twitter (@KiraPeikoff ). I will be rating this a 5/5 stars on Goodreads and Amazon.
