Sci-fi thriller that may soon reflect reality

This was a wonderful book! This is the story of a child born under circumstances that were not aligned with bioethics or laws of the time, the emotional relationships between researcher and subject, and the parental bonds that form between donor and child. The characters were all very well-developed and had realistic personalities that each contributed to the plot. The premise was based on some existing research and extended to sci-fi, but the plot of this story could very well become reality in our world in just a few years. The non-speculative scientific material was all accurate and well-researched, which gave the plot more credibility and made it feel more real. The general themes reminded me a lot of Gattaca, although the overall story was entirely different.
