I read Mother Knows Best in two sittings. I could have been a one sitting read, but parenting kept getting in the way. It was a very fast-paced read.

Claire has decided to have a second child after her first child passed away. Her first child, Colton, had a terminal disease and it was important to Claire that her second child did not have the same genetic disease. Claire learns of Dr. Nash and his post doc Jillian Hendricks and their desire to create the worlds first three parent baby in order to eliminate the genetic disease. Eventually the news of the secret trial leaks to the authorities. A very pregnant Claire and Dr. Nash go into hiding leaving Jillian to take the fall.

Over 10 years later, Jillian has discovered the location of Claire, Dr. Nash, and the now 11 year old Abigail.

The first half of the book reads more like a family drama than a thriller, but the thriller aspects do come out in the second half of the books. I have to be honest in saying that I saw every twist coming a mile away, however it did not take away from the book. I still devoured the book and wanted to see how it all played out.

I will note that there were several issues regarding the criminal legal proceedings. Those issues didn't necessarily take away from the story, but bothered me. I found the medical aspects to be fascinating.
