Before reading this novel, I had never heard of mitochondrial disease. I'm so thankful for the opportunity to have received a digital copy of Mother Knows Best to review, because it really opened my eyes to a world I was completely ignorant of. I don't have any children myself, and can't imagine the heartbreak of losing a child. Not only that, but deciding to try again knowing full well you might pass on the same disease to your next child. This story was absolutely heartbreaking, and powerful.

I would recommend this novel to anyone who's looking for a hard-hitting contemporary. Get the tissues ready, because you'll be needing them! I'd love to re-read this book with a friend of book club.
