After reading the new novel “Mona Passage” by Thomas Bardenwerper I was pleasantly surprised to become so immersed in this storyline. Set of the coast of Puerto Rico Lt. Pat McAllister get s patrolling the Caribbean Sea searching for evidence of possible drug trafficking and migrants. Galan Betances is Thomas’s best friendnand is located on the shore.qHe is an entrepreneur who escaped as a child from Cuba, leaving his mother and sister behind. His sister had special needs. As time passes Galan and Pat develop a close brother type relationship. Pat’s actual brother Danny remains at home suffering from emotional scars stemming from injuries incurred when he was a soldier fighting in Iraq.
The plot develops quickly when Galan returns to Cuba for his mother’s funeral and discovers his sister about to be committed to a mental health facility that is poorly run.
